Amnesty International

Amnesty International

Amnesty International (AI) is Nobel Prize-winning movement of more than 2.2 million supporters worldwide, campaigning for internationally recognized human rights to be respected and protected for everyone. AI undertakes research and campaigns to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated.

Violations of women’s human rights are a priority concern for AI.  The organization is campaigning to Stop Violence against Women in times of armed violence and peace, and against the human rights abuses which can trap women in poverty.  AI is also advocating for a new strong UN agency for women to more effectively help the wider UN system and governments, with the engagement of civil society, protect and promote women’s human rights.
