Biography of Ohmar Khin, National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma, Burma

Ohmar Khin is a women’s rights and democracy advocate. She has worked for the last twenty years to ensure the increased participation of women in the mainstream Burmese politics within the democratic movement. Ms. Khin was the Coordinator for the Peacebuilding and Reconciliation Program at the Women’s League of Burma (WLB), an organization operating on the Thailand-Burma border. She coordinated the design and implementation of the ‘Women as Peacebuilders Program’ that promotes the role of women in peacebuilding, conflict transformation and reconciliation among various ethnic and religious communities impacted by the civil war and repressive military rule.

Ms. Khin is an Executive Committee member of the Burmese Women’s Union. She also designs, coordinates and facilitates the women empowerment and capacity building programs for women of Burma in refugee camps and in migrant workers communities along Thai, India and China border areas with Burma. Prior to her position with the Women’s League of Burma, Ms. Khin served as the coordinator for the Women’s Affairs Department, Burma-UN Service, National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB) and the coordinator of the National Reconciliation Program (NRP).
