Oxfam
Oxfam is an international confederation of 22 organizations working together with partners and local communities in more than 90 countries.
One person in three in the world lives in poverty. Oxfam is determined to change that world by mobilizing the power of people against poverty.
Around the globe, Oxfam works to find practical, innovative ways for people to lift themselves out of poverty and thrive. Oxfam saves lives and helps rebuild livelihoods when crisis strikes. And Oxfam campaigns so that the voices of the poor influence the local and global decisions that affect them.
In all they do, Oxfam works with partner organizations and alongside vulnerable women and men to end the injustices that cause poverty.
Oxfam implements a combination of project services and advocacy to support a range of women, peace and security (WPS) aims worldwide. These include women’s participation in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and conflict recovery, gender-sensitive security institutions, as well as in local/community and national advocacy and decision making.
In disasters and conflicts, Oxfam targets humanitarian assistance and protection activities towards women and girls based on their specific competencies and vulnerabilities. Oxfam’s humanitarian advocacy aims to ensure emergency responses in general adequately analyze and address the specific needs of women and girls and the threats they face.
Oxfam advocacy activities, often in coordination with local women’s rights groups, targeting national policy makers to initiate and improve National Action Plans on WPS and CEDAW implementation. Oxfam’s advocacy reflects the perspectives of the women within the communities (including diaspora) in which they work.
